         STANDARDS-BASED ASSESSMENT is defined as assessment using evaluation to determine the level of student achievement and ability.   Then there is the difference between traditional assessment and standards-based assessment.

If students receive a failing grade in a traditional grading scheme, they are required to retake the entire course. Grades in a standards-based assessment scheme are feedback that indicate precisely what has to be taught again.
